See how easy it is to create a DIY Dip and Chip Bowl for your next party. This DIY project cost me $2* to make. *I already had the glue on hand from my 3-Tier Serving Tray project.
As I was making the final food list for our Christmas party, I decided that I did not have a decent way to serve the chips and guacamole. I do have this lovely ceramic chip bowl that I made in a pottery class several years ago, but it is on the small side. Good for veggies and bacon ranch cream cheese dip, but kind of small for chips and guacamole or salsa. A good chip bowl was needed for the party guests to enjoy the food.
I love the 3-tier serving stand that I made for our party a few years ago and thought I should do something similar. I was thinking I could get a large glass bowl, a candlestick, and a smaller glass bowl to create a bowl with the dip part elevated. There was some E6000 Glue from making the stand, so I just needed the glassware. I headed over to our local ReStore and found a simpler solution for under $2.
How to Make a Homemade Bowl Piece
This simple DIY chip stand project is very easy. You need a martini glass, a glass bowl, and some E6000 glue. Get creative and use colorful glass or dishware to create a one-of-a-kind piece.
I got a glass bowl and a martini glass for $1.91. That meant I only had to glue one thing. My hubby helped me put it together. He held the glass while I squirted the glue.
The glue has an odor, so we put the bowl together out in the garage. The glue instructions say it takes at least 24 hours to dry, but we gave it 72 hours to make sure it was truly dry and for the smell to go away.

I did have to refill the glass once because I made a big batch of guacamole, but it was practically licked clean midway through the party. Several people commented on the cool bowl. While we do not host a lot of parties, I am very glad to have this unique serving piece.

Materials
- Glass Bowl

Instructions
- Clean and dry your dishware.
- Read the instructions on the tube of E6000 glue and prep your area. We glued ours in the garage because the glue has a very strong smell.
- Squirt a small amount of glue to the desired spot on the bowl.
- Place the bottom of the glass onto the glue and hold it in place for at least 2 minutes or until the glue begins to set.
- When the glue has begun to cure, carefully place a heavy item on top to apply even pressure.
- Allow 24 to 72 hours to dry. I recommend 72 hours to make sure it has cured properly!
Notes
Extra hands may be helpful for this project. My husband held the bowl still while I glued and placed the glass in place.
